I took a trip today out to Parham Ontario. About 45 minutes from home. The Canadian Pacific Line runs through here.It is rugged country being right on or well into the Canadian Shield. It is rocky like you would'nt believe through this area.Great rock cuts making for excellent photos. The first spot I chose was up a side road off the main highway number 38.First thing I saw when I got here in the new fresh snow was bear tracks, leading off into the bush which looked like a well traveled trail by humans as well.
It made for a nice day with sun at the start but soon got overcast and started to snow. It was not long before I heard my first whistle way off in the east. To the east it is literally coming out of the woods as you will see. I managed to climb up on some rocks to kind of look down on the train. Being not quite as high as an overpass.Just nice height to capture a decent shot looking down.
CP 8540

First along out of the woods came CP 8540 what looked like a very well used unit. She was pulling a not to long tank train.

Next along was number 9675 pulling a combo mixed freight intermodal.

Sorry for the post in the way I couldn't get around it to get a better shot.I t would have been to close to the tracks.

The next spot I wanted to check out was north of Centerville.I have often drove by here and is a fairly decent spot as well. Here the tracks split off into 2 lines. Now I'm not sure if one is just a siding or is part of the main line.I suppose I will never know. But I find the only problem with this spot is it is to plain like some of the spots along the CN lines.I liked Parham better due to the various locations within a stretch of of a few 100 meters in the other direction of the rock cut I was at,there is a long strait stretch and a sharp curve in the other direction right in the village.Very scenic along a short stretch of track.Anyhow back to where I was north of Centerville. When I got here it started to snow quite heavily. And along came number 8856 out of the snowfall. It was moving at a pretty good clip really blazing up the snow.I just wish there had been a little more snow. But you can't have everything work with what you have I guess.

And away she goes blasting by me.

Today I tried an entirely different location. It was at mile marker 183 at Amherstview Ontario outside Kingston. It started out sunny and not to warm but just enough to be comfortable for a while till it became overcast and cooled off somewhat. This was a good location because in either direction there are banked curves.Which makes for a very nice shot or two.
Also here is THE CLOSEST I have ever gotten to one of these!...but the end result was a next to perfect shot. I'll be damned though if someone from an apartment building here didn't call the cops.He came we had a nice chat ...I'm not kidding CHAT. He was just concerned and just told me to be carefull is all someone in the building he said was concerned. We talked for a few minutes he left and I carried on with my business at hand getting some excellent shots. But I didn't get as many today as I had hoped to.Oh well some days are good and some are bad I guess.
CN Number 2300

First up was CN number 2300 which I had seen not to long ago earlier this week I believe.

Next was VIA 6431
VIA Rail 6431

This was the closest I had ever gotten to a train. But hey.....I got a real decent shot out of it.It was worth the scare.

Next was 6420
VIA Rail 6420

Next was 6441
VIA Rail 6441

CN Rail 2675

This was a 3 engine unit.Pulling a long what looked like a grain freight.

Couldn't make out the number on this one.
