Photos From: December 10 2011

I took a trip today out to Parham Ontario. About 45 minutes from home. The Canadian Pacific Line runs through here.It is rugged country being right on or well into the Canadian Shield. It is rocky like you would'nt believe through this area.Great rock cuts making for excellent photos. The first spot I chose was up a side road off the main highway number 38.First thing I saw when I got here in the new fresh snow was bear tracks, leading off into the bush which looked like a well traveled trail by humans as well.
It made for a nice day with sun at the start but soon got overcast and started to snow. It was not long before I heard my first whistle way off in the east. To the east it is literally coming out of the woods as you will see. I managed to climb up on some rocks to kind of look down on the train. Being not quite as high as an overpass.Just nice height to capture a decent shot looking down.
CP 8540

First along out of the woods came CP 8540 what looked like a very well used unit. She was pulling a not to long tank train.

Next along was number 9675 pulling a combo mixed freight intermodal.

Sorry for the post in the way I couldn't get around it to get a better shot.I t would have been to close to the tracks.

The next spot I wanted to check out was north of Centerville.I have often drove by here and is a fairly decent spot as well. Here the tracks split off into 2 lines. Now I'm not sure if one is just a siding or is part of the main line.I suppose I will never know. But I find the only problem with this spot is it is to plain like some of the spots along the CN lines.I liked Parham better due to the various locations within a stretch of of a few 100 meters in the other direction of the rock cut I was at,there is a long strait stretch and a sharp curve in the other direction right in the village.Very scenic along a short stretch of track.Anyhow back to where I was north of Centerville. When I got here it started to snow quite heavily. And along came number 8856 out of the snowfall. It was moving at a pretty good clip really blazing up the snow.I just wish there had been a little more snow. But you can't have everything work with what you have I guess.

And away she goes blasting by me.

  1. Vic Rolfe I already signed-up but I can't remember how to log in with that Site. Wanted to post a comment. This is it: "North of Centerville is a perfect spot. It has to do with the trees..." I'll show you what I mean when I get off this damn ship. (I can't do any cropping on here. I really want to show you my own crop of the original image file...)
